1. Man of Steel
Like Les Misérables, I have so much love for the Man of Steel teaser trailer, and particularly the version with Jonathan Kent’s narration. It gives away nothing, whilst keeping the anticipation on full, which I think is exactly what a trailer, and especially a teaser, ought to do. (And what too few trailers tend to do these days.)
But ultimately, when it comes down to it, it’s the full-length version that is my Top Trailer of 2012. It is nothing short of amazing. It brilliantly sets up the Summer 2013 blockbuster, and my anticipation couldn’t be higher, and I know there are millions out there who feel the same way.
The music is beautiful, we get an awesome shot of a metallic Superman logo just past the 1-minute mark, and then? Billowing red cape, the snowy ground begins to shake, and we have lift-off. And it is utterly elegant, as he soars literally around the world.
And it doesn’t end there. We get our first glimpse of Russell Crowe. Henry Cavill is standing in flames. And then comes Michael Shannon’s General Zod! Superman in chains?! And Lois Lane!
There’s a reason why the trailer has racked up north of 25m. views in less than a month. And it’s the same reason why it’s my favourite trailer we’ve seen this year. It is, quite simply, incredible.
