Netflix has released a very early teaser trailer for ‘Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure,’ the long-gestating live-action prequel spin-off to the hit supernatural franchise, while announcing an ambitious target release window of 2028.
Set in Marion, Nevada, in 1955, the new series will take viewers decades before the events of ‘Stranger Things,’ exploring an earlier chapter of the franchise’s mythology and the origins of one of its most terrifying figures.
While plot details remain firmly under wraps, the Duffer brothers have previously teased that the series will explore events leading up to Henry Creel’s exposure to the otherworldly substance that ultimately gave him his extraordinary powers and transformed him into Vecna.
The prequel will be set even earlier than the animated series ‘Stranger Things: Tales from ’85’ and the events depicted in the stage production ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow.’
Matt and Ross Duffer co-created the series alongside Kate Trefry, with all three serving as executive producers. Trefry will also take on showrunner duties, while filmmaker Joe Wright (Atonement, Darkest Hour) will direct the first three episodes and executive produce.
The additional executive producers include Shawn Levy, Paul Dichter, Shelley Meals, Andrea Sperling and Pavlina Hatoupis. Production is set to take place in New Mexico, with the series currently targeting a 2028 debut on Netflix.
