With movies such as Avengers Assemble and the Iron Man trilogy the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has led rival studios to realise that there’s money to be made from the franchises they hold the rights to. DC’s response was to go all out with Suicide Squad, Aquaman and multiple branches in production. Likewise Fox have their eyes on a vast X-Men universe on the big and the small screen.

Some have already been alluded to (Deadpool, Gambit and X-Force), but the world of the X-Men is so huge, Fox have the chance to create a lot of great movies featuring an awful lot of fan-favourite characters. Some have already made their big screen debuts, and here, we count down just 20 possible movies that could be made following the release of Bryan Singer’s highly-anticipated X-Men Apocalypse.

20. Origin

Origin

This controversial series was adapted for all of five minutes of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but an actual movie based solely on this series could be something very special indeed. It told the tale of the young, sickly James Howlett and how he became the man known as Wolverine in the late 19th Century.

The supporting cast includes Dog Logan (James’ half-brother and the son of an abusive drunk who manages the grounds of the Howlett’s estate) and Rose, the love of the young Wolverine’s life. Unlike X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Dog isn’t Sabretooth, but keeping that particular alteration to the source material would be no bad thing as it did make their history more interesting.

This movie would mean a younger actor could take over from Hugh Jackman, possibly even leading to him inheriting the role permanently somewhere down the line as the Les Miserables star has recently alluded to.
