Much to the surprise of well, pretty much everyone, Sony recently announced plans to finally bring Venom to the big screen in his own solo movie. The villain made his first movie appearance in 2007’s Spider-Man 3, but fans were extremely disappointed by that take on the character and particularly by Topher Grace’s performance. The alien symbiote was originally worn by Peter Parker before he shed the suit and it was taken by Eddie Brock. Since then, both Mac Gargan and Flash Thompson have been Venom, giving writer/director Alex Kurtzman has plenty of material to work with. With over 25 years’ worth of comic books to take inspiration from, we thought that now would be a good time to take a look at some of the best storylines featuring Venom which could be used in the planned spin-off. 10. Venom: Dark Origin

Venom: Dark Origin explores the life of Eddie Brock in greater detail than ever before. The limited series took us right back to Brock’s childhood, giving us a great understanding of what led to him becoming the man he was even before being bonded with the alien symbiote (which truly helped push him into madness). If the black suit is introduced in the third instalment of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, then this spin-off could still feature the wall-crawler; just very briefly and from the perspective of Eddie Brock! If the movie dealt with him learning to use the suit and perhaps fighting crime with it in his own twisted way, then the door would then be left wide open by the time the credits rolled for the two to come to blows in a fourth Spider-Man movie.
