Having made a name for himself in the likes of Carol and The White Lotus, Jake Lacy’s latest performance represents something of a departure, as he takes a starring role in the moving Indian-set drama A Mosquito in the Ear. The film will be receiving its UK premiere on Sunday July 12th at the London Indian Film Festival, and to mark the occasion we had the pleasure of speaking to the actor, in a compelling and insightful conversation surrounding the themes of the film, his involvement, and his career as a whole.

Speaking to our very own Ricky Patel, Lacy speaks about the unique pressure in bringing a true story to life, and his experiences filming in Goa – which naturally leads into a conversation about the local cuisine. He speaks in-depth about the emotional aspects of this film and process, and looks ahead at future projects, as an actor we’re always keeping a keen eye on, given his inclination to pick complex roles in interesting projects – which one a case in point.

Plot

Based on Andrea Ferraris’ acclaimed graphic novel by the same title, itself inspired by a true story, this moving drama follows a couple who travel to India to bring home their newly adopted four-year-old daughter. Their hopes are complicated when the child refuses to leave the familiarity of her orphanage and the people she knows. What begins as a journey of adoption gradually becomes a sensitive exploration of belonging, identity, and emotional connection across cultural divides. With empathy and nuance, the film examines the challenges of forming a family and the fragile, often uncertain process through which intimacy and trust are built.

A Mosquito in the Ear premieres at the London Indian Film Festival on July 12th, more information and tickets can be found here.
