6. “Hooked on a Feeling”
You may think that Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling” is just a random piece of trailer music, but James Gunn has confirmed that it will indeed be in the movie (it works too perfectly with the footage for that to be the case anyway). In fact, the reason that Peter Quill acts the way he does when his alien captor starts fiddling around with his walkman is apparently due to the fact that, “A lot of other old songs are on Quill’s mixed tape in his Sony Walkman.
It’s one of the few things he has from Earth. I don’t think of it as a joke, because it’s very dear to him. It’s the umbilical cord that connects him to earth and the home and family he lost.” Gunn’s comments reveal an interesting wrinkle to the character, and makes it clear that there will be a lot more to Guardians of the Galaxy than comedy. It also makes it likely that this will be the first Marvel movie to have a must-buy soundtrack!
