The Royal Festival Hall at Southbank Centre in London was the place to be this evening, as the 70th BFI London Film Festival launched in style with the European Premiere of Elsinore at its Opening Night Gala. The film stars Andrew Scott, Olivia Colman, Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Luke Thompson, Joe Locke, Monica Dolan, Juliet Stevenson, Adeel Akhtar, Matthew Beard, David Dawson, Kadiff Kirwan, Dickie Beau and Peter Mullan; it was written by Stephen Beresford and directed by Simon Stone.
Elsinore will be released in UK cinemas on 29th January 2027.

Plot:
Set in the 1980s, Elsinore tells the true story of acclaimed actor Ian Charleson (Andrew Scott), who faces extraordinary personal and professional odds while preparing to give the performance of his life as Hamlet at London’s National Theatre. As he fights an AIDS-related illness, Charleson is supported by a community of friends, colleagues and loved ones in this moving portrait of resistance and the triumph of art.
