3. The Knick

The Knick

Set in the 1900s, the declaration made by Clive Owen’s Dr. John Thackery (the newly appointed leader of the surgery staff who battles his cocaine and opium addictions with his ambition for medical discovery and reputation among his peers) sums this TV series up nicely early on; “More has been learnt about the human body in the last five years than in the past 500.”

The Knick follows both the professional and personal lives of those working in New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital as they look to revolutionise medicine with drastic new procedures and operations…as a result, expect some bloody moments.

The ten-part drama is directed entirely by Steven Soderbergh, and his name alone will guarantee that many people will want to tune in as the helmer of a number of acclaimed movies once again sets his sights on TV.
