Karen Gillan continues to strive for success away from Doctor Who, and after shaving her head to play the villainous Nebula in this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the Scottish actress is now setting her sights on her own US TV series. With an American accent, Gillan stars in a very modern spin on classic play Pygmalion as the focus is put squarely on today’s social media driven world. This is a subject which surprisingly hasn’t been fully explored on either film or TV as of yet, so that definitely gives Selfie an edge.

Gillan’s Eliza Dooley is obsessed with becoming Internet famous, but that has ironically left her both without any friends and a serious lack of social skills away from her computer. It’s then that she hires marketer Henry (Star Trek’s John Cho) to help her rebuild her image and do away with social media…
