7) Love Actually: Declaring Your Love to a Married Woman with the use of Signage
We were in two minds whether or not to add this one but it’s made the cut! The scene in question is that where The reason being that the couple in question are Andrew Lincoln’s character (Mark) falls in love with his best friend’s wife. The best friend is played by Chiwetel Ejiofor (Peter) while his wife is played by Keira Knightley (Juliet).
Towards the end of the movie where Mark realises that the chance of ending up with the girl is becoming ever slimmer, he turns up at their house with a collection of giant cards with text and images on them. There’s a few problems here, the main one being ‘What would have happened if Peter had answered the door’?! Anyway, we’ll move on! Juliet opens the door to find Mark standing there with his signs and a ghetto blaster only to declare his love for her while his best friend sits in the living room.
The most romantic part of this scene happens as Mark is walking off and his sign show has ended and Juliet runs after him, gives him a huge kiss on the lips then runs back home to her loving and new husband while Mark utters the words “Enough”.
It’s a very odd scene which is why we weren’t sure whether it should / would make the cut but we’ve decided it fits perfectly into the category of ‘Most Unlikely Romantic Movies Scenes’ and therefore here it is!
