5. Ronan the Accuser
Guardians of the Galaxy was perhaps 2014’s best superhero movie, but as with a number of Marvel Studios’ other releases, the villain wasn’t really the best. Though Ronan was an effective bad guy to some extent and a suitable first foe for the quirky team of reluctant heroes, his plan to get his hands on a MacGuffin – an Infinity Gem in this instance – in order to perform genocide was far too similar to the likes of the Red Skull from Captain America: The First Avenger and Malekith in Thor: The Dark World.
Still, Lee Pace was impressive as one of the movie’s lead villains, but you can’t help but hope that Marvel will give this formula a break as we see Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron and the hopefully very unique Ant-Man next year.
