The first volume of Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider-Man not only features the very first appearance of Spider-Man, but also the main villain of Marc Webb’s upcoming sequel (Electro). In that comic, electrical engineer Max Dillon gains his powers after an accident while repairing a power line, but that origin story seemingly won’t be present when Max Dillon brings the villain to life in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Even so, this is still a great place to start if you feel like getting to know Peter Parker a little better, and Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s innocent and classic stories are a great deal of fun despite now inevitably coming across as terribly old fashioned (they are after all over 50 years old). A great place to turn to see where it all began…
