If you’ve never heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy, don’t worry. They’ve only had sporadic appearances in the comic books over the years, although the recently released new ongoing series is a great place to start for anyone hoping to learn at least a little about the team before the release of James Gunn’s movie next August. Avengers and Uncanny X-Men writer Brian Michael Bendis effectively reintroduces the characters to a modern audience with new costumes, but the familiar personalities which make Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket Raccoon such fan favourites. Much to the displeasure of some fans, Iron Man was made a member of this iteration of the team, something which will surely make the prospect of checking this title out all the more appealing to casual fans!
