2. Spider-Man: The Gauntlet, Book 1 (Electro & Sandman)
The first villain Spider-Man faced in “The Gauntlet” was Electro. The villain very nearly killed Peter Parker in Mark Millar and Terry Dodson’s superb Marvel Knights Spider-Man (which you can read more about by clicking here), but this arc gave him a new direction and appearance. When Electro heads up a public movement called “Power to the People” against the New York Stock Exchange, the public begin to view him as a hero. However, when offered the chance at a cure for his condition, he agrees to call his campaign off. Spider-Man’s interference causes the procedure to go wrong – the hero assumed that the villain was once again trying to hijack New York’s power – and this results in Electro now being able to become electricity as well as wielding it. For a modern take on Electro before seeing Jamie Foxx play the character, this is a great place to turn!
