Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in Zach Cregger’s upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘The Flood,’ which is being produced by Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema.
Cregger, the filmmaker behind ‘Barbarian’ and ‘Weapons,’ will write, produce, and direct the original film, currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 11, 2028.
Plot details for ‘The Flood’ remain under wraps, and further casting is yet to be announced. Amblin Entertainment is producing alongside Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon.
The project will see Cregger reunite with Warner Bros. and New Line following the success of his 2025 horror mystery ‘Weapons.’ The film, which followed Cregger’s breakout feature ‘Barbarian,’ became a major box-office success, earning around $270 million worldwide from a budget of less than $40 million.

While ‘The Flood’ is being described as a science-fiction thriller rather than outright horror, Cregger has previously teased that the film will contain moments of horror. He has also described it as a more adult and complicated story, with a narrative structure that differs from both ‘Barbarian’ and ‘Weapons.’
Lawrence adds another major project to an increasingly busy slate. The Oscar-winning actor will next be seen in the ‘Hunger Games’ prequel ‘Sunrise on the Reaping,’ while she is also attached to Martin Scorsese’s upcoming thriller ‘What Happens at Night.’
