Marvel announced a lot of movies at their big event last month; Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange and more were all finally made official, but there was one blockbuster announcement which blew all of those away. That was obviously the reveal of a two part Avengers movie called “The Infinity War”.

Based on the teaser trailer Marvel showed off at the event, Thanos – the villain introduced in the mid-credits scene of 2012’s The Avengers – will finally get his hands on The Infinity Gauntlet after years of build up.

There’s still more than three years to go until the release of the first instalment, and we haven’t even seen Avengers: Age of Ultron yet. Regardless, what we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far and the title tells us a lot about what we should expect, so here’s everything you need to know about the movie…

10. The Infinity Gauntlet

Infinity Gauntlet

So, what is The Infinity Gauntlet and why does Thanos want it so badly? Basically, when all six of the gems are united (we’ll tell you a little more about those in the next slide), they can be used to give whoever wields it virtual omnipotence.

In fact, when Thanos got his hands on it for the first time, he used just 2% of its power in a fit of rage to sink the west coast of the United States and shatter the Rainbow Bridge, leaving Thor stranded in Asgard in the process. Having it under his control would allow Thanos to basically rule the universe, so stopping him from assembling the set of stones and using this is obviously vital.

The Infinity Gauntlet actually made a very brief appearance in Odin’s throne room in Thor, and while that may just be a forgotten Easter Egg now, perhaps we’ll see Thanos head to Asgard to retrieve it in Thor: Ragnarok?
