Jeff-WadlowFox are expected to use their Comic-Con panel this coming weekend to announce an expanded X-Men Universe, and it looks like X-Force could well be their starting point.

The studio are heading to San Diego with The Wolverine, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and a surprise. And whilst the expectation is for that surprise to be Bryan Singer’s anticipated X-Men: Days of Future Past, we’d love for a part of that surprise to include word on their plans for this expanded X-Men Universe.

THR report that Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) has now been hired by the studio to write the script for X-Force, with an eye to direct.

Lauren Shuler Donner, who is a veteran producer on the X-Men franchise, will naturally be producing.

The series was created by Rob Liefeld, with the first issue published back in 1991, and Liefeld has revealed that he’s known of the project being worked on since March this year.

The original line-up included the likes of Cable, Boom Boom, Domino, Feral, Shatterstar, and Warpath, with early issues also featuring Deadpool, the character that Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson became in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Given the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the hugely successful building blocks that Man of Steel have begun in the nascent DC Cinematic Universe, it naturally makes sense for Fox to start expanding on their own Universes, with a film like X-Force.

Needless to say, any specifics on plot at this point are being kept quiet, so we’ve no idea if X-Force, or any other expansions on the universe, would intersect with Fox’s upcoming films in the X-Men franchise.

We love what we’ve seen so far of Wadlow’s work on Kick-Ass 2, and can’t wait for the sequel to land next month. So the prospect of him taking on another franchise, with as big a potential as X-Force has, definitely has us interested. With any luck, we’ll have some more details to bring you out of Comic-Con soon.
