Luke Grimes returns as Kayce Dutton in Marshals — the brand new Yellowstone spin-off — and while the first season is in mid-flow, we had the opportunity to speak to the man himself, for a show that brings a whole new light, and story, to one of the popular series’ favourite character.

Grimes opens up about his initial doubts with the show’s concept to embracing Kayce’s Navy SEAL roots. He breaks down the evolution of the character and why this series gives fans what they’ve been waiting for. He also explains why he avoids reading fan reactions, and how he just can’t watch himself on screen. We also dig into the meaning behind Kayce’s black hat, and how this role changed his life – for the better.

Plot

With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana. Kayce and his teammates — Pete Calvin, Belle Skinner, Andrea Cruz, and Miles Kittle — must balance the high psychological cost of serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence with their duty to their families.
