Rumours around a Men in Black spin-off have been flying over recent months, one even hinting at a questionable Men in Black/21 Jump Street cross over. News has finally reached of a confirmation of the spin-off is in the works but the idea of crossing it with 21 Jump Street has been put to bed, for the time being, and the possibility of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones returning to the franchise isn’t looking likely either.

Comparing the new outing to that of reboot sequel Jurassic World, the aim of the spin-off will be to fully acknowledge the franchise’s previous films; it will be set within the same universe but given a contemporary twist with a host of new younger characters. Iron Man and Transformers: The Last Knight scribes, Matt Holloway and Art Marcum are all set to pen the script.

The spin-off producer Walter F. Parkes stated that although this is a spin-off, writer’s Holloway and Marcum have stuck to the core of the MIB films;

“It’s so rare to get to the end of the script and know you’re holding a movie in your hands, but Art and Matt have written a spinoff that somehow is true to the core of the MiB world and yet expands the franchise to a fresh new place,”

Steven Spielberg will be executive producing this new MiB spinoff, while original series producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald will also return. No casting details have emerged as yet but producers are said to be actively looking for directors.

According to Deadline, this new untitled spinoff is being fast-tracked and already has a completed script with a May 17, 2019, release date planned.
