It was mentioned in those “Sony Hack” emails a while back, but now Sony Pictures are officially moving forward with a crossover between the Jump Street and Men in Black franchises. While the green light hasn’t been given just yet, Variety reveals that they’re already looking at a June start date and have their eye on a director to take the helm.

That’s James Bobin, the filmmaker responsible for The Muppets and the upcoming Alice Through the Looking Glass. He’s obviously stepping in to take over from Jump Street helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller as they’re going to be busy with their Han Solo movie.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum will return however, but they’re not going to be spending any time with Agents Jay Kay, the heroes of the Men in Black franchise played by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. It seems like new characters will be introduced instead, and rather than a traditional crossover, this one will just place Jenko and Schmidt in the alien battling agency.

Rodney Rothman has written the screenplay, and while Sony are said to be happy with it, it’s a little concerning to think that the trademark humour of the Jump Street franchise will be lost without Lord and Miller. Regardless, plot details are being kept a secret for now.
