It’s that time again! With shooting on Star Wars Episode VIII well under way, the rumour mill has inevitably been cranked into overdrive, and following rather silly claims about Tom Hardy being cast as Boba Fett, a new story has emerged which is a little more believable. According to Making Star Wars, the British actor will be suiting up as an anonymous Stormtrooper!

However, just like what J.J. Abrams did with Daniel Craig in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it sounds like Episode VIII helmer Rian Johnson has something special planned for Hardy.

– Tom Hardy plays a First Order stormtrooper.
– Said stormtrooper glimpses FN-2187 on a secret mission but doesn’t realize it.
– The “incognito” FN-2187 is surprised when the stormtrooper walks up behind him and slaps him on the ass.
– FN-2187 turns around and believes he’s dead. He’s surely going to be captured.
– The stormtrooper is elated to see his old friend from back during their First Order academy days.
– The stormtrooper congratulates FN-2187 on his promotion to Resistance infiltrator and spy.
– FN-2187 is free to go about his business to his amazement.

Needless to say, that sounds absolutely awesome (and almost a little too good to be true).

Seeing as no one involved with The Force Awakens would confirm whether or not that was Craig – it was – we probably shouldn’t expect to find out whether or not this rumour is true until the movie is released. Unfortunately, Star Wars Episode VIII isn’t due until next year, so that’s quite the wait, but now we at least know which Stormtrooper to keep an eye out for…
