Ang Lee’s Life of Pi debuted at NYFF to almost universal critical acclaim, cementing its position as a strong contender in the coming awards season.

Last month we saw the brilliant new full-length trailer for the film, followed by a great new UK poster, and now MSN have debuted an excellent behind-the-scenes featurette, giving us an inside look at the development of a truly ambitious project.

“Director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) creates a groundbreaking movie event about a young man who survives a tragic disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While marooned on a lifeboat, he forms an amazing and unexpected connection with the ship’s only other survivor — a fearsome Bengal tiger.”

Newcomer Suraj Sharma takes the lead in the coming epic drama, supported by Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Rafe Spall (who replaced the previously-expected Tobey Maguire), and Gérard Depardieu, with Lee directing from a script by Oscar-nominated David Magee (Finding Neverland), who adapts the critically acclaimed novel by Yann Martel, which was, much like Cloud Atlas, previously thought impossible to adapt.

Life of Pi will be released in the US in just over a month on 21st November, before coming to the UK in time for Christmas with a 20th December release set. This should be one of the year’s best, and we can’t wait for it to arrive. Here’s the great new featurette to show you why.
