Ang Lee’s Life of Pi entered as a strong contender for the coming awards season with an impeccable first teaser trailer over the summer, and yesterday we saw a great international trailer surface with some excellent new footage.

The US version of that trailer has now debuted over at Yahoo Movies, with the same brilliant use of Coldplay’s Paradise through the second half. An incredible song for what promises to be an incredible film.

“Director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) creates a groundbreaking movie event about a young man who survives a tragic disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While marooned on a lifeboat, he forms an amazing and unexpected connection with the ship’s only other survivor — a fearsome Bengal tiger.”

Newcomer Suraj Sharma takes the lead, starring alongside Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Rafe Spall (who replaced the previously-expected Tobey Maguire), and Gérard Depardieu, with Lee directing from a script by Oscar-nominated David Magee (Finding Neverland), who adapts the critically acclaimed novel by Yann Martel

Life of Pi will be released in 3D in the US on 21st November, followed by a 21st December release here in the UK. I can’t wait; it looks immense. Here’s the new trailer to prove it. Enjoy.
