The Visit was a notable return to form for M. Night Shyamalan. The found footage take on a very bad case of mistaken identity went a long way to erasing memories of After Earth and his other, less successful projects.
Hopes are high then that Split will continue this upturn, and in the first trailer for the film there are hints that the Shyamalan of old is back. In among the narrative fragments on offer here (three girls are kidnapped, holed up, all by the same man – but not necessarily the same person) are the kind of visual elegance that drew so many people in.
James McAvoy has the chance to further impress as the antagonist with the titular disorder, The Witch’s Anya Taylor-Joy looks to be our lead. They are joined by Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula and Haley Lu Richardson. Taylor-Joy in particular will make this one worth your time.
The film is heading our way in January of next year.
