5. Funny how?
An entire top ten list from Goodfellas would be a piece of cake, but here is the moment pretty much everyone remembers. Joe Pesci proves to be adept at telling a funny story, but pulls a handbrake turn on Liotta’s Harry Hill, going from ace anecdote-spinner to threatening gangster in seconds.
What is so funny about me? Am I a clown? Am I here to amuse you? It is terrifying and disorienting and eventually funny, but it is all-but impossible to resist a heavy exhale once it becomes clear that Pesci is only winding Liotta up and isn’t actually going to kill him where he sits. It is unbearably tense and another sparkling diamond amidst Scorsese’s sensational CV.
