PennyDreadful

Showtime (the US cable network responsible for the likes of Dexter and Homeland) announced at the TCA Press Tour presentation yesterday that they have set an air date for Penny Dreadful. According to Showtime Entertainment President David Nevins, the first episode will debut on Sunday, May 11th at 10pm. There’s currently no word on when it will reach this side of the pond.

In Penny Dreadful, some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters – including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula – have become embroiled in Victorian London. The series is a frightening psychosexual thriller created, written and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator) and executive produced by Logan’s Desert Wolf Productions, along with Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road), both of Neal Street.

In terms of cast, Penny Dreadful’s impressive line-up includes Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Billie Piper, Rory Kinnear, and Timothy Dalton. This past week has also seen the release of two new teaser trailers, both of which you can see below.
