On 2nd July my eagerly awaited summer release gets its UK opening.  Lacking the bells, whistles and endearing animation of the season’s other openings Lymelife offers instead a darkly funny and achingly honest semi-autobiographical account of the coming of age of an American teen as he awakes from the American Dream.

The directorial debut of Derick Martini was co-written with his brother Steven and exectutive produced by Martin Scorsese.  The fraternal connection continues in the films casting as indie stalwarts (and experts on family dysfunction) Rory and Kieran Culkin feature among a strong ensemble cast which also includes Alec Baldwin, Timothy Hutton, Cynthia Nixon and Emma Roberts.  Shot on a shoestring budget in only 22 days it could hardly have less in common with the mighty studio pictures set to dominate the holidays and yet I firmly believe this gem of a film will hold its own.

We had the opportunity to sit down with director Derick Martini earlier this month and will bring you that chat alongside our review for opening week.  In the meantime to whet your appetite we present the trailer and welcome you to the wonderful world of Lymelife!
