Lady Gaga has entered into early talks to join the follow-up to Todd Phillips ‘Joker’ alongside Joaquin Phoenix.

Details on her character are being kept under wraps, but it is rumoured that Gaga is in line to play Harley Quinn, a character previously made famous by Margot Robbie.  However, this new Quinn exists in a different DC universe than Robbie’s Harley Quinn.

In a slightly bizarre twist, souces have also stated that the sequel will also be a musical.

Phillips has been co-writing the script with ‘Joker’ co-writer Scott Silver for a while and has recently shown it to the studio. Recently, Phillips revealed on social media the title of the new project – ‘Joker: Folie à deux’ – the title referencing a medical term for an identical or similar mental disorder that affects two or more individuals, usually members of the same family. And while the same social media post showed Phoenix reading the script, the actor’s involvement is not yet set in stone.

Phoenix earned the best actor Oscar for the role of Arthur Fleck, a troubled man who evolves into a folk villain-type figure by the end of the story. ‘Joker’ earned $1.07 billion globally.
