J. K. Simmons has entered into negotiations to reprise his role as Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming HBO Max movie ‘Batgirl’.
Simmons would join ‘In The Heights’ star Leslie Grace who was recently cast on the leading role as Barbara Gordon, the film will centre on Barbara, Commissioner James Gordon’s daughter, who becomes the Gotham City crime-fighting Batgirl.
‘Bad Boys for Life’ filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah take on directing duties while Christina Hodson (“Bumblebee,” “The Flash”) is writing the screenplay. Production is due to commence in November. A release date has yet to be scheduled.

Simmons played the role, albeit briefly, in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, he had previously stated that he would love to return to the role in any future movies.
Gordon has been played by a number of actors over the years, including Neil Hamilton in the 1960s ‘Batman’ TV series, Pat Hingle in the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher ‘Batman’ movie franchise, and Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight’ films.
The film is set for release via the streamer in the US in 2022.
