Evil Dead will be heading into theatres next spring, remaking the classic horror, The Evil Dead, that Sam Raimi really made a name for himself with back in the ’80s.

This time around, Bruce Campbell’s leading role has been rewritten for a female lead, with Jane Levy now starring as Mia, and EW have debuted the first image from the film.

Levy was on hand at NYCC over the weekend, which saw director Fede Alvarez unveil the first teaser trailer to audiences at the convention.

“In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.”

Levy stars alongside Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci, and Elizabeth Blackmore, with Raimi and Campbell both serving as producers.

Alvarez is making his feature directorial debut, directing from a script he wrote with past collaborator Rodo Sayagues Mendez, with Diablo Cody hired for a revision last year.

Evil Dead is set to be released in the UK and US on 12th April, 2013, giving us a few months to prepare for the horrors we have in store for us. With the teaser now having debuted at NYCC, we’ll hopefully see it arrive on the shores of the Internet soon. For now, here’s the first image from the film, as well as a teaser banner from its recently-launched Facebook, both of which you can click to enlarge.
