Production on The Wolverine is well underway, returning us once more to the X-Men world with Hugh Jackman reprising his role as the eponymous lead.

We got our first official look at Jackman last month, and now the first set photos have surfaced of Russian actress Svetlana Khodchenkova as the female villain, Madame Hydra, a.k.a. Viper.

“Based on the celebrated comic book arc, The Wolverine finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.”

James Mangold (Walk the Line) is behind the camera, directing from a script collaborated on by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Jack Reacher) and Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard/Die Hard 4.0).

And starring alongside Jackman and Kodchenkova is an excellent cast, headed up by the great Hiroyuki Sanada, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto, Brian Tee, Will Yun Lee, and Hal Yamanouchi.

The Wolverine is set for release on 26th July, 2013, and is naturally expected to be one of the biggest blockbusters of next year. In the meantime, here are the great new photos from the set, including a final shot of Jackman in a suit. As usual, you can click to enlarge.
