Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln premiered at the NYFF last week to very promising early reviews, further cementing its position as a contender in the coming awards race.

Daniel Day-Lewis takes the lead as the eponymous US President, and after catching the brilliant two-minute TV spot following the real-life presidential debate earlier this month, Yahoo Movies have debuted a new image from the film.

They’ll also be hosting a live Q&A with Spielberg and Day-Lewis, inviting fans to ask questions tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT (2:30 a.m. in the UK).

“Steven Spielberg directs two-time Academy Award® winner Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln,” a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.”

Starring alongside the presidential lead will be Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, John Hawkes, Jared Harris, Jackie Earle Haley, James Spader, Lee Pace, David Oyelowo, and David Straithairn.

Spielberg is directing from a script by the Oscar-nominated Tony Kushner (Munich), who adapts the original book, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Lincoln will be given a limited release in the US on 9th November, before going wide on 16th November, in perfect position for a run at the Oscars at the start of next year. Here in the UK, we’ll have to wait a little longer for its 25th January release, but we all know Spielberg is well worth the wait, especially with a cast as impressive as this. For now, here’s the new image, which you can click to enlarge. Enjoy.
