Alex Kurtzman, one half of the writing duo behind such blockbusters as Star Trek, Transformers, and Cowboys & Aliens, makes his directorial debut with People Like Us.

Led by an all-star cast, starring Chris Pine (Star Trek), Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games), and Olivia Wilde (House), the film was released in the US over the summer, and though it initially looked like we might have to wait for a home entertainment release, it’s now secured distribution here in the UK, and we have the new UK trailer to prove it.

“From DreamWorks Pictures, the studio that brought you The Help, comes the smart and witty drama People Like Us, featuring an all-star cast, including Chris Pine (Star Trek), Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games), Olivia Wilde and the award-winning Michelle Pfeiffer. Sam (Pine) is a twenty-something, fast-talking salesman whose latest deal collapses the day he learns his father has suddenly died. Against his wishes, Sam is called home to put his father’s estate in order and reconnect with his estranged family. While there, he uncovers a startling secret that turns his entire world upside down – he has a 30-year old sister he never knew existed.

Inspired by true events People Like Us is a heart-warming and touching movie everybody can relate to. In cinemas November 9.”

Kurtzman has co-written the script with frequent collaborator Roberto Orci (Transformers, Star Trek), along with Jody Lambert, who makes her screenwriting debut. And completing the cast nicely alongside the leading trio are Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Hall D’Addario, Mark Duplass, and Philip Baker Hall.

Alongside Orci, Kurtzman has always been great at peopling his blockbuster scripts with genuine, relatable characters, and I can’t wait to see what he’s like behind the camera.

Largely identical to the US trailer we saw earlier this year, this new trailer is great to see because it means the film won’t be coming straight to DVD/Blu-ray on our shores, but is thankfully getting a theatrical release first.

People Like Us will be in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on 9th November. In the US, the film came out on DVD/Blu-ray at the start of this month, so if you missed it in theatres, you can buy it now. And for us looking forward to its release here next month, here’s the  official UK trailer. Enjoy.
