A charming new romantic comedy is quietly reeling in two of Hollywood’s most magnetic stars. Chris Pine and Emma Stone are officially set to lead ‘The Catch,’ a two-hander rom-com directed by Dave McCary.
While plot details are being kept under lock and key, the film is described as an intimate, character-driven romance built around its central duo, a format that often lets sharp dialogue and chemistry do the heavy lifting.
The screenplay for ‘The Catch’ comes from a layered creative relay. Patrick Kang and Michael Levin originally penned the spec script, with a fresh polish by Jen Statsky, known for her Emmy-winning work on Hacks, alongside Travis Helwig. That rewrite reportedly tipped the scales for Stone, who had been weighing several fall projects before zeroing in on this one.

Producing duties bring together a blend of comedy and blockbuster pedigree. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will produce through 21 Laps Entertainment, with Michael H. Weber also producing.
Stone reunites with McCary behind the scenes as well, producing alongside Ali Herting under their banner Fruit Tree Productions.
Production is eyeing a start later this year.
