Borat – The Late Show with David Letterman Interview

Borat

Sacha Baron Cohen’s methods and approach to the many characters he’s created can be summed up in one word – unconventional. The strange antics to sell his films are the stuff viral videos are made of and “accidentally” covering Ryan Seacrest in ashes whilst in character as Admiral General Aladeen from The Dictator only goes to prove this.

However it is his 2006 mockumentary, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, that is particularly noteworthy. As divisive as the film is there is no doubting many were persuaded to see it out of intrigue for how far the boundaries could be pushed.

An appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman as Borat discussing the “documentary” created further buzz in an eight minute interview that isn’t at all shocking but nevertheless hilarious to witness.

Immersed in the character, calm and at complete ease Cohen’s performance was bizarrely brilliant. It is simple but insanely effective marketing that generates interest to see more of the character.
