Earlier this week, we got the first official images and details about Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther (he’ll be making an appearance in Captain America: Civil War ahead of his own solo outing in 2018) and it has now been revealed that Marvel are zeroing in on a director!

Numerous sites are reporting that Creed and Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler is in talks to take the helm of Black Panther, and as he’s African American, this would obviously be a sign on Marvel’s part that they’re looking to add diversity behind and in front of the camera. He’s actually expressed interest in the movie in a number of interviews recently, and based on his past work, the filmmaker would bring an awful lot to Black Panther.

Joe Robert Cole was recently hired to work on the Black Panther screenplay, and with Marvel keen to hire Coogler following the critical and commercial success of Creed, a deal could close any day now. For the time being though, we’re just going to have to wait and see.

Black Panther is the King of fictional African nation Wakanda and it’s thought (and rumoured) that Andy Serkis will be reprising his Avengers: Age of Ultron role in the movie, while Martin Freeman may show up as whoever he’s playing in next year’s Captain America: Civil War.
