Easily one of the most exciting additions made to Captain America: Civil War is Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa/Black Panther, and this first Phase 3 movie is going to introduce the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of the character before he stars in his own 2018 outing.

While he could be glimpsed in the trailer fighting Bucky and being chased down by Captain America, Entertainment Weekly has today released a brand new look at the fan-favourite character, and it’s fair to say that any doubts fans had about how well Black Panther would translate to the big screen should now be quickly forgotten based on these images.

Asked about how Black Panther factors into the conflict we’ll see play out in Captain America: Civil War, Boseman explained: “I think there’s perhaps a bit of a maverick there, and then there’s also a need to live up to traditions and his father’s legacy. And not even his father’s legacy, but the entire nation of Wakanda. I think those are the things you will see.”

“Ultimately some sides are taken, but I think the trick of the movie is for no one to be blindly following,” the 42 actor adds. “Everybody is actually on their own side, in truth.”

Kevin Feige meanwhile added, “We kept talking about ‘somebody like Black Panther.’ After the third or fourth time that came up in a development meeting, someone said, ‘Can’t we just do the Black Panther?’ And we all looked at each other and said, ‘Yeah, I guess we could.’ We introduce him here, give him an arc, and make him a full character. We don’t just give him a cameo. He has his own conflict and his own people that he’s looking out for.”
