The action-packed first full-length trailer landed last month for Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth film in the highly successful zombie franchise, and now we’ve got nine new images to share, giving us a look at the leading players.

Milla Jovovich of course returns as Alice, with support coming from Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine, Johann Urb as Leon Kennedy, Boris Kodjoe as Luther West, Bingbing Li as Ada Wong, and a surprise (and very much welcome) return from Michelle Rodriguez as Rain Ocampo, who starred (and seemingly died) in 2002’s Resident Evil, the first film in the series.

“Alice is captured by Umbrella and awakens in the heart of their operation facility; as she moves further in the complex more of her past is unveiled and continues to hunt for those responsible for the outbreak. Her quest takes her and her newfound allies from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow. After a “mind-blowing” revelation, she is forced to rethink everything she once thought to be true.”

Paul W.S. Anderson is behind the camera once more, directing from his own script, and with a tally of $650m. from the first four films to date, I’m keeping quietly optimistic that this fifth instalment will tip the franchise into the billion-dollar club.

I love that Michelle Rodriguez is coming back for this, and can’t wait to see how Anderson brings her back.

Resident Evil: Retribution will be released in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on 14th September in the US, followed two weeks later on 28th September here in the UK. Judging by what we’ve seen so far, I’m thinking we can expect bigger, better, and more ambitious than the four films that precede it. It should be awesome.
