‘The Yellow Tie’ chronicles the extraordinary life of Sergiu Celibidache, regarded as one of the 20th century’s most brilliant and controversial artistic figures. Forced to flee his native Romania, Celibidache endured extreme hardship in war-torn Berlin before rising against all odds to become the youngest-ever chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

Yet success came on his own uncompromising terms. Celibidache refused to compromise his artistic integrity and famously rejected studio recordings, a stance that earned him passionate devotion as well as fierce debate within the classical music world.

Beyond its musical backdrop, ‘The Yellow Tie’ is ultimately a deeply human story about perseverance, identity and the relentless pursuit of a dream. Its themes of ambition, resilience and artistic integrity extend far beyond the world of classical music, making this an inspirational story with universal appeal.

Two-time Academy Award nominee John Malkovich portrays Celibidache in the later years of his life, while Ben Schnetzer plays the young conductor. The cast also features two-time Academy Award nominee Miranda Richardson, Kate Phillips, two-time BAFTA winner Sean Bean, Anton Lesser and Charlie Rowe.

The film is directed by Serge Ioan Celebidachi, Maestro Celibidache’s son, who co-wrote the screenplay with James Olivier.
