The trailer for Anurag Basu’s Barfi! released a couple of days ago and now we have the first official poster too.

The trailer is just so beautifully constructed accompanied with a soothing accordion and violin score thatĀ  from the very first notes reminds us of Jean Piere Jeunet’s whimsical Amelie Poulain. Ranbir Kapoor fresh off the critical acclaim of last year’s Rockstar is dead set to prove that he is one of the finest and probably most charming on screen presence amongst the new batch of young Bollywood actors.

According to a plot summary available on IMDB, the movie is set in the 1970’s where Ranbir Kapoor plays Barfi, a hearing and speech impaired young manĀ  falls in love Shruti (Illeana making her Bollywood debut) who falls for his charms but bows out of the relationship due to societal pressures. Although that doesn’t sounds very exciting director Anurag Basu has always had the capabilities to add something fresh and interesting to the must hum drum storylines. Barfi!does seems to be much more than a conventional love story and will definitely be the Ranbir show all the way.

We see less of his co-star Priyanka Chopra in this trailer but I am sure her performance will be a big draw too who plays a intellectually challenged but Piggy as she is fondly known seems to shine whenever she takes on a de-glam role as pointed out by our twitter friend GetFilmy.

We just can’t get enough of this trailer and hope the movie lives when it releases in theaters September 14th.
