Priyanka Chopra Jonas is the latest in a number of names to enter into talks to join Lana Wachowski’s ‘The Matrix 4’ for an undisclosed role.
Chopra Jonas would join Neil Patrick Harris and Jada Pinkett Smith with the previously announced Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne-Moss. Both reprise their roles in the series of films. Jada Pinkett Smith has also entered into negotiations to reprise her role Niobe which she played ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ and ‘Matrix Revolutions’. ‘Us’ and ‘Aquaman’ star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II also joined the cast last week. Lana Wachowski is on board to write and direct the film which was announced as being in the works by Warner Bros in August.
At the moment, plot details are being kept firmly under wraps but rumours of the character Morpheus will return have been doing the rounds.
The original film depicts a dystopian future in which humanity is unknowingly trapped inside a simulated reality, the Matrix, created by thought-capable machines (artificial beings) to distract humans while using their bodies as an energy source. When computer programmer Thomas Anderson, under the hacker alias “Neo”, uncovers the truth, he “is drawn into a rebellion against the machines” along with other people who have been freed from the Matrix.
The 1999 science fiction action film was written and directed by the Wachowskis and starred Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Joe Pantoliano.
Filming is due to commence on the feature imminently in San Francisco.
