Friends
The TV comedy sensation of the 90s was as essential as a cup of coffee at Central Perk, allowing us to eavesdrop on the hilariously messy lives of a group of Manhattanites at our leisure. Yes, it’s all very white and absolutely ridiculous to think a group of struggling young New Yorkers could live in apartments of this size – but Friends navigated around these implausibilites with a massive amount of wit and sheer charm that it sustained pretty solidly across all of its 10 seasons. But of course it would never have worked at all without the star-making turns from Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow; their unflagging comic energy as Chandler, Ross, Joey, Monica, Rachel and Phoebe singlehandedly kept us watching through all the show’s ups and downs.
