The only confirmed cast members of the Spider-Man reboot so far are Tom Holland (Peter Parker) and Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), but it has now been revealed that actress and singer Zendaya has landed a lead role in the highly anticipated reboot from director Jon Watts.

While no specific character details have been revealed, Deadline claims to have heard that she’s playing “Michelle.” Could that be a reference to Michele Gonzales, a relatively unknown love interest of Peter’s who was a criminal defense lawyer and his roommate for a time? It’s certainly possible, though she’ll have obviously undergone some fairly big changes here.

It doesn’t sound like she’ll be a romantic interest to the hero, and it’s going to be interesting to see whether Marvel once again decides to focus on Mary Jane Watson or Gwen Stacy. There are plenty of other options open to them, including Betty Brant and Liz Allen.

Best known for starring in Disney Channel series Shake It Up! and K.C. Undercover, Zendaya is an interesting first addition and points to Spider-Man’s world becoming a little more diverse in this 2017 reboot. Regardless, we’ll see the new wall-crawler in action for the first time when Captain America: Civil War is released this May.
