The first trailer for Preacher aired during the latest episode of The Walking Dead in the US last night, and it’s now been officially released. The brutal teaser definitely points to some changes from the source material, but it looks great, and is quickly shaping up to be one of 2016’s most must-watch new TV shows. Based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s comic book series of the same name, the show has been developed by Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Preacher revolves around Jesse Custer, a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip, Jesse’s former and only true love, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, they embark on a journey to literally find God.

Rogen and Goldberg directed the pilot which Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) wrote. He’ll also serve as showrunner, while the duo best known for their comedic work will stay on as executive producers. An adaptation of Preacher has been stuck in development hell for years now, and the comic – which debuted in 1995 – ended back in 2000. It’s clear that AMC are banking on their take being as popular and successful as The Walking Dead has been.
