The response to Spectre may have been a little mixed (you can read our review by clicking here), but that hasn’t stopped the twenty fourth James Bond movie from breaking box office records! In fact, it is now the holder of the record for the biggest UK opening of all-time.

Spectre has yet to open in North America, but in the six territories it has been released in to date, the movie has brought in an impressive $80.4 million. A whopping $41. 7 million ($63.8 million) of that came specifically from the UK, and that means that Spectre has not only beaten what Skyfall earned during its opening week, but it’s also now topped Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by having the biggest opening in box office history here.

“We are delighted that audiences in the UK and Ireland continue to embrace these stories about one of our biggest and best cultural icons,” Sony Pictures UK managing director Peter Taylor said in a press release announcing the news earlier today. “This opening proves once again, that the film world of James Bond speaks to cinema-goers like no other.”
