Director Vincenzo Natali has jumped on board the Syfy pilot of the reboot of 90’s classic film Tremors along with the original star of the film, Kevin Bacon.

In the follow-up the killer Graboid worms that nearly destroyed Perfection, NV 25 years ago are back, and the town’s only hope for survival is Valentine McKee (Bacon), who beat them once. But to do it again he’ll have to overcome age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex.

In the 1990 Ron Underwood directed film, Repairmen Val McKee (Kevin Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) are tired of their dull lives in the small desert town of Perfection, Nevada. But just as the two try to skip town, they happen upon a series of mysterious deaths and a concerned seismologist (Finn Carter) studying unnatural readings below the ground. With the help of an eccentric couple (Reba McEntire, Michael Gross), the group fights for survival against giant, worm-like monsters hungry for human flesh.

Tremors

The film is the first instalment of the franchise and was followed by four direct-to-video sequels titled, Tremors 2: Aftershocks (1996), Tremors 3: Back to Perfection (2001), Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (2004), and Tremors 5: Bloodlines (2015). A television series spin-off titled Tremors: The Series aired from March through August 2003.

Natali, who also directed episodes of series such as Westworld, American Gods and Netflix’s Luke Cage teams up again with scribe Andrew Miller who has penned the pilot. The project comes out of Jason Blum’s Blumhouse TV and Universal Cable Prods and will see Miller act as showrunner with Bacon, David Schiff and Jessica Rhoades as executive producers.
