Netflix has debuted the trailer for Malcolm Washington’s ‘The Piano Lesson’ starring John David Washington.
Set in 1936 Pittsburgh during the aftermath of the Great Depression, the film follows the lives of the Charles family in the Doaker Charles household and an heirloom, the family piano, which documents the family history through carvings made by their enslaved ancestor.
Adapted from August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork, the story explores the intergenerational dynamics of identity, resilience and transcendence – revealing startling truths about how we perceive the past and who gets to define our legacy.
Malcolm Washington makes his directional debut. Oscar-nominated Denzel Washington joins as a producer, and the film stars John David Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, Ray Fisher, Michael Potts, Erykah Badu with Danielle Deadwyler and Corey Hawkins.
