It may appear as a warm, genial family adventure flick, but when you scratch beneath the surface, Tom Harper’s The Aeronauts is a grittier tale, one of survival and our ability to maintain hope in the face of adversity. Out now in cinemas across the UK, back at the London Film Festival we were fortunate enough to sit down with the film’s leading duo Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne, in what is their first collaboration since The Theory of Everything. Synopsis

In 1862 headstrong scientist James Glaisher and wealthy young widow Amelia Wren mount a balloon expedition to fly higher than anyone in history. As their perilous ascent reduces their chances of survival, the unlikely duo soon discover things about themselves — and each other — that help both of them find their place in the world.
