With Toy Story 3 currently causing a torrent of tears (of joy and sadness in equal measure) across the pond, we here in the UK still have a few more weeks to wait and even though I can’t tell you what I thought of it* there are powerful forces at work in the world of animated feature films.

None more powerful than the creative force of one Tim Burton whose 3D feature length stop-motion reworking of his short film from 1984 Frankweenie is on the go right now and while this will satisfy Burtonites across the world there’s news on his Addams Family project.

ComingSoon spoke to Producer Christopher Meledandri who confirmed that Burton is still involved, with eyes on directing the stop motion adaptation of the original Charles Addams cartoons,

Though he [Meledandri] stressed that the project is in the very early stages, he did confirm that the film is planned for stop motion and not for computer animation. He added that the project will be based on the original Charles Addams comics that ran in The New Yorker and not the subsequent television series or the film adaptations thereof.

Meledandri goes into further detail about exactly where the project is,

We’re just now at the story phase. Stuff has been written as though we are doing it in black and white, but that’s not correct. It’s not incorrect, but it’s not correct. We haven’t gotten to that point.

Whether Burton will jump onto this one after his involvement with Frankenweenie and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter or take his other rumoured projects such as Dark Shadows or Maleficent to task first only he knows. But we’ll find out, and let you good people know.
