Hiraeth Productions Cyf and Screen Wizards Pictures are delighted to announce that their award-winning short film Something Pointless will continue its festival run with an upcoming screening at the Indie Short Fest on Wednesday 1st July.

The heartfelt drama has steadily built momentum on the festival circuit, earning multiple awards and critical praise for its moving story, accomplished performances and thoughtful direction.

Written by Neil Graham and David Cormican, Something Pointless is based on Graham’s first-place winning screenplay from the 2010 Canadian Short Screenplay Competition (CSSC).

Since its debut, the short has screened at several prestigious festivals, including the USA Film Festival, Yorkton Film Festival in Canada and Wales’ Carmarthen Bay Film Festival, where it received a nomination for the John Hefin Best Short Film Made in Wales Award.

Its international success has continued throughout 2026, winning:

  • Best Short Film at the Ideal International Film Festival (India)
  • Best Short Film at the Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival (Greece)
  • Best Picture at the East Village New York Film Festival
  • Best Narrative Film at the Unseen Film Festival

‘Something Pointless’ tells the story of an unexpected friendship that develops between generations.

The film follows a lonely boy who is bullied and isolated as he forms a touching bond with an elderly man. What begins as the older man’s seemingly pointless daily ritual gradually reveals itself to be a quiet but powerful act of resistance against insignificance, creating an emotionally resonant story about connection, purpose and hope.

‘Something Pointless’ is directed by Asa Bailey, whose previous work includes Silo and 100 Years of Solitude.

The film features an accomplished cast led by Leo Harris (The Count of Monte Cristo, Lost Boys & Fairies), BAFTA-winning actor Owen Teale (Game of Thrones, The Rig), Olivier Award-winning Sophie Thompson (Gosford Park, EastEnders) and SAG Award nominee Sule Rimi (The Day of the Jackal, Andor).
